Ullapool

Scotland
Sandy in the mountains Ullapool was developed as a fishing harbour during the late 18th century, but the area has been settled since neolithic times. Ullapool is a community in which tourism plays an important part, but by no means an overwhelming one. The village is the ideal base for those who wish to explore the real Highlands of Scotland. Ullapool is only a one hour drive north-west from Inverness, but is in the centre of an area described as one of the last wildernesses and unspoiled environments in Europe. It is an area of exceptional natural beauty, unsurpassed anywhere in Britain.

The climate is fairly unpredictable so it's best to come prepared for all eventualities. You'll find good pubs and restaurants, live traditional and contemporary music and entertainment and excellent shopping.

Many artists have been attracted here: painters, sculptors, craftsmen in silver gold, ceramics, wood , wool and leather all live and work here.

There is a nine-hole, part-links, golf-course, which hires out clubs and trolleys The course is beautifully situated by the sea and although only five or six years old, is maturing nicely.

A fully equipped Leisure Complex is situated in the village. The facilities include a swimming pool and sauna, indoor and outdoor courts and a fitness room. Guests staying at "Corran" have free access to all these facilities with the use of Cards which we will provide as part of our all-inclusive package.

Ullapool has an excellent, award-winning Museum, housed in a beautifully restored Telford church building, and in the new Theatre/Community School complex there is an up-to-date well stocked library which also provides internet access.

There is a wide range of other activities such as boat trips from Ullapool pier out to the Summer Isles where you are sure to see seals,  possibly porpoise,  sometimes whales,  and a rich variety of bird-life.

The area is famous for hill-walking, and climbing, with excellent specialist shops to provide you with "the gear" so you can be equipped for gentle walks or much more serious stuff.

Loch fishing for wild brown trout and salmon can be had with permits available locally, and gear and tackle are also on sale.
